Pdf Summary
The purpose of this study was to understand the treatment goals of male partners for their female partners suffering from urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) and to compare these goals with the goals identified by the female patients themselves. The study was conducted as part of the Incontinence and IntiMate Partners Clinical Trial (iIMPACT). Participants in the study were female patients undergoing UUI treatment with Solifenacin and their willing male partners.

Both the female patients and their male partners independently completed questionnaires about demographics, general health, sexual function, and relationship satisfaction. Participants then listed and ranked their own goals for the women's treatment. These goals were categorized into predetermined categories by urogynecologic surgeons. Descriptive statistics were used to compare the goals and goal subtypes by gender.

The results showed that symptom goals were the most common and prioritized as the number one goal by both female patients and male partners. Goals related to sexual function, intimacy, or the relationship were the second most common for male partners. There was no difference in goals related to sexual function/intimacy between genders. Female partners were more likely to list symptom-specific goals compared to their male partners, while male partners were more likely to list goals related to healing and recovery.

The study included 64 couples, with most female participants being Caucasian, married, and post-menopausal. The majority of male participants were sexually active. Overall, the study found that there was concordance in treatment goals for UUI between female patients and their male partners.
