Pdf Summary
Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition that affects many women. The symptoms of UI can go beyond stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI). Other symptoms include insensible urine loss, nocturnal enuresis, post-micturition dribbling, and coital incontinence. A study was conducted to determine the correlation between these UI symptoms and urodynamic testing in women with UI complaints.

The study included 432 women who presented with UI complaints. The symptoms reported by these women were analyzed and correlated with urodynamic diagnoses such as urodynamic stress incontinence (USI) and detrusor overactivity (DO).

The results showed that UUI was strongly correlated with DO, confirming previous findings. Nocturnal enuresis (NE) was the only other symptom associated with a urodynamic diagnosis, also correlating with DO. SUI was a sensitive but not specific symptom in predicting a diagnosis of USI, while UUI was a sensitive but not specific symptom in the diagnosis of DO. Therefore, relying on patient history alone to predict the underlying cause of UI is unreliable.

The study emphasizes the complexity of UI in women and the need for urodynamic testing to provide a clearer diagnosis in patients with multiple UI symptoms. The sensitivities, specificities, and positive and negative predictive values were calculated for SUI and UUI, providing useful information for clinicians.

Overall, the study highlights the importance of considering a wide range of UI symptoms and utilizing urodynamic testing to accurately diagnose and treat UI in women.
