Pdf Summary
The study aimed to gather information on job search strategies, negotiation tactics, and compensation among recent Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) fellowship graduates. An anonymous survey was sent to fellows who graduated between 2013 and 2016, and 80 graduates completed the survey. The population of FPMRS graduates is predominantly female (77.5%), with a majority having a background in Obstetrics and Gynecology (92%).

The study found that the mean base salary during the first year of practice was $256,156, with 48% of graduates having productivity incentives. There were no significant differences in starting salary, negotiation of contract, or involvement of a lawyer between male and female graduates. However, base salary was significantly higher for community practice compared to academic practice. The survey also revealed that 37% of applicants received 2 or more job offers, and 81% reported negotiating some portion of their contract.

Furthermore, 59% of the graduates were aware of the salary data available from the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS). Approximately half of the respondents described their current practice as academic, while 30% reported a community setting and 51% were hospital employed.

In terms of geographic variations, the study found no significant difference in salary based on the region of practice. However, it was observed that non-academic positions had higher initial salaries and higher potential salaries compared to academic positions.

The study concludes that FPMRS graduates predominantly work in academic practices, with females making up the majority. Starting salaries are similar for both male and female graduates, but community practice offers higher salaries. The study aims to provide guidance to future FPMRS graduates in terms of job search strategies, negotiation, and compensation.
