Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the long-term sexual function and satisfaction of women who had previously sustained obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) during vaginal delivery. Women enrolled in the study completed online questionnaires to assess their current sexual functioning and satisfaction. Male partners of the women were also invited to complete the survey. The study found that even three years after sustaining OASIS, up to half of the women and many of their male partners met criteria for sexual dysfunction. The most commonly reported dysfunction was infrequency of intercourse. The study also found that women with subsequent vaginal deliveries were not more likely to experience sexual dysfunction compared to women without subsequent deliveries. The study highlights the need for further research and support for women and their partners who have experienced OASIS to improve their sexual function and satisfaction.
