GSM affects up to 50% of postmenopausal patients and causes symptoms such as vaginal burning, itching, and dyspareunia. Various treatment options exist, including vaginal hormone replacement and lubricants. The effectiveness of fractional CO2 laser in alleviating GSM symptoms has been established, especially for patients who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen therapy. However, the procedure is not covered by insurance and patients are required to pay out of pocket.

The study involved patients receiving treatment at four US centers and completing a course of three treatments. A survey was conducted to assess patient satisfaction with cost, among other factors. The results showed that 78% of patients were satisfied with the cost, and there was no correlation between cost satisfaction and household income. The study also found that fractional CO2 laser therapy is a safe treatment for GSM symptoms and patients are willing to pay out-of-pocket for it. The objective of the study was to assess patient satisfaction, treatment outcomes, and out-of-pocket expense for fractional CO2 laser in the treatment of GSM.
