The purpose of this project is to adapt and pilot-test a urinary incontinence promotion program to target both urinary and bowel incontinence in older women in the US. The program was initially explored in fall 2014, where two informal sessions were conducted at a senior center to explore community interest and readiness. The preparation phase started in January 2015, which included assembling a Stakeholder Advisory Board and identifying an appropriate conceptual model for the program. The program is being implemented and tested in engaged communities, with rapid cycle analysis being conducted to inform modifications to enhance the fit of the intervention with the context. Feedback from intervention and community partners is being used to make modifications to the program. The program is now being tested in a randomized controlled trial in six communities. The research is engaging program participants, facilitators, and agencies involved in hosting the programs.<br /><br />The adapted program is based on an evidence-based urinary incontinence promotion program and uses a dynamic adaptation process and a dynamic sustainability framework. The Health Action Process Approach is being used as the conceptual model for the program. Observations and inputs from the implementation cycles include requests for interactive follow-up sessions, the use of PowerPoint, and the sustainability of using expert teachers. The conclusion outlines the characteristics of the sample population and offers references to related studies.<br /><br />Overall, this project aims to adapt and implement a urinary and bowel incontinence promotion program using a dynamic adaptation process and the Health Action Process Approach. Modifications are being made based on feedback and the program is being tested in multiple communities to evaluate its effectiveness.
