Pdf Summary
This study aimed to report the outcomes of sling plication for persistent stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in a case series of 36 patients. Synthetic midurethral slings are the recommended surgical treatment for SUI, but a small percentage of patients experience sling failure and present a challenge for surgeons. Recurrent SUI can be treated with various approaches, including a second midurethral sling, pubovaginal sling, or use of bulking agents. Sling plication, or shortening of the existing mesh, is a minimally invasive method that has been less frequently described. The objective of this study was to describe sling plication for persistent SUI in a larger series of patients than previously reported.

The results of the study showed that the median time between sling placement and plication procedure was 1.6 months, and the median follow-up after sling plication was 17 weeks. The demographic data of the patients included their age, BMI, parity, concomitant prolapse surgery, and type of sling used. The study found that sling plication could be an effective treatment option for persistent SUI after midurethral sling placement.

The study references several previous studies that have examined the success rate of sling plication for SUI. These studies have reported similar positive outcomes, supporting the use of sling plication as a treatment option for persistent SUI.

In conclusion, this study provides evidence for the effectiveness of sling plication in treating persistent SUI after midurethral sling placement. The results suggest that sling plication can be a viable surgical option for patients who experience recurrent SUI. Further research and larger studies are needed to validate these findings and determine the long-term success rates of sling plication.
