Back to course
Pdf Summary
This research poster presentation focuses on analyzing the backgrounds of applicants for the AUGS Resident Scholars Award Program in order to gain insights into the traits of future Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) physicians. The researchers compared the research and residency backgrounds of applicants who matched into FPMRS programs with those who did not.

The study found that out of 225 applications reviewed, 107 were matched and 118 were unmatched. There were no significant differences between matched and unmatched candidates based on research history. The median numbers of publications, presentations, and ongoing projects were similar between the two groups. Advanced degrees were held by 15% of matched applicants and 19.5% of unmatched applicants, with no significant difference.

Applicants who matched into a FPMRS program were more likely to have a FPMRS fellowship at their residency (56.5% vs. 50.8%). Academic institutions represented the majority of both matched and unmatched applicants. However, there was a higher proportion of applicants from community programs in the matched applicant pool.

The presence of a fellowship at one's residency may contribute to the trend of matched applicants originating from training programs with FPMRS fellowships. Overall, academic programs constituted the majority of the total applicant pool, while community programs were better represented in the matched applicant pool.

This retrospective cohort analysis provides valuable insights into the characteristics and backgrounds of applicants for the AUGS Resident Scholars Award Program. Understanding these traits can help identify future FPMRS physicians and inform the selection process for the award program.
