Pdf Summary
The document discusses the association between social determinants of health (SDOH) and the severity of voiding dysfunction. SDOH are factors such as housing instability, food security, transportation problems, and education which have been associated with various health conditions. The study conducted a prospective observation cohort study of new patients with overactive bladder and controls without urinary symptoms. Validated surveys were administered to measure the severity of voiding dysfunction and SDOH. The results showed that SDOH variables were found to be associated with voiding dysfunction, with higher UDI-6 scores seen in individuals with transportation issues, family support issues, education issues, depression, stress, and disabilities. Increases in Total SDOH Scores were also associated with significant increases in complaints of urge, stress, incontinence, difficulty voiding, and pelvic pain. The study suggests that further research is needed to understand social barriers to urogynecologic healthcare and to find ways to improve on these disparities. The findings also highlight potential targets for address during clinic visits in patients with voiding dysfunction, such as job assistance, disability, and physical activity. The document also includes tables displaying linear regression models with SDOH Total Score as the dependent variable, as well as a pie chart showing the breakdown of subjects by race and a graph showing differences in UDI6 Total Scores based on individual SDOH factors.
