The study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of three-dimensional ultrasound technique for measuring the pubovisceral muscle and levator hiatus area in nulliparous women. The study population consisted of 21 Korean women, with an average age of 30.9 and a mean BMI of 19.7. The measurements were compared with those of Taiwanese and Caucasian women.<br /><br />The results showed good inter-observer agreement in measuring the pelvic floor muscle and hiatal area. The thickness of the pelvic floor muscle measured by the pubovisceral muscle was thicker in the Korean women compared to Taiwanese and Caucasian women. However, the measurements of hiatal area, including minimal anteroposterior, lateral hiatal diameter, and minimum hiatal area, were smaller in Korean women compared to Taiwanese and Caucasian women.<br /><br />The study concluded that the thicker pubovisceral muscle and narrower hiatal area in Korean women may reflect either the characteristics of the study population or ethnic differences compared to Taiwanese and Caucasian women. The study also emphasized the importance of further studies tailored to the demographics of the study population in a larger sample size.<br /><br />Overall, the study provides insights into the differences in pelvic floor muscle thickness and hiatal area between Korean, Taiwanese, and Caucasian women. The findings highlight the need for more research to better understand the factors contributing to these differences and their implications for pelvic floor health.
