This study compared the effectiveness of Transobturator Tape (TOT) and Tension-Free Vaginal Tape (TVT) as surgical treatments for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The study aimed to evaluate the postoperative outcomes of these two procedures.<br /><br />The study found that although TOT had a lower Valsalva Leak Point Pressure (VLPP), which is typically associated with worse outcomes, the recurrence and complication rates were similar in both groups. This suggests that both TOT and TVT are equally effective in treating SUI.<br /><br />The study also noted that TVT had a longer operation time and carried a higher risk of bladder injury and bleeding compared to TOT. Therefore, TOT was considered a safer method with similar effectiveness.<br /><br />Patients in both groups reported a significant improvement in their urinary symptoms after surgery. The rate of urine leakage, which can be seen as a symptom of recurrent urinary incontinence, was similar between the TOT and TVT groups.<br /><br />The study included 298 patients who underwent either TOT or TVT surgery. After one year of follow-up, 262 women were available for analysis. There were no significant differences in weight, BMI, previous hysterectomy history, or underlying diseases between the TOT and TVT groups.<br /><br />Urodynamic study results showed no difference in bladder capacity or maximal urethral closing pressure between the two groups. However, VLPP was significantly lower in the TOT group.<br /><br />In conclusion, TOT and TVT were found to be both effective treatments for SUI. TOT was considered a safer method with similar effectiveness to TVT.
