Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between transperineal ultrasound parameters and outcomes in retropubic mid-urethral sling (MUS) procedures for stress urinary incontinence. The study included 87 patients who underwent the procedure between January 2013 and December 2017. Objective and subjective outcomes were measured, including patient-reported cure or improvement and persistence of urinary incontinence symptoms. Sonographic parameters such as levator ani status, sling-pubis gap, and sling-pubis angle were assessed. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between a narrower sling-pubis gap at Valsalva and patient-reported cure or improvement. Other ultrasound parameters did not show significant associations. The study found that 87.3% of patients reported satisfaction with the procedure and reported cure or improvement. The mesh erosion rate was 2.3%, which aligns with current literature. The study concluded that a narrower sling-pubis gap is significantly correlated with treatment success in retropubic MUS procedures for stress urinary incontinence. The findings provide valuable insights into the potential use of transperineal ultrasound parameters as predictors of success rates in these procedures. Further research in this area may help improve patient outcomes and optimize treatment strategies for stress urinary incontinence.
