Pdf Summary
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as overactive bladder, urgency urinary incontinence, and stress urinary incontinence affect a large percentage of women worldwide. Despite the negative impact on quality of life, LUTS are often under-reported and under-treated. This study aims to identify transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) measurements correlated with LUTS by comparing TTE parameters in patients with and without LUTS and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The study analyzed TTE data from female patients who underwent TTEs between 2011-2017. The data was divided into four cohorts: no LUTS or OSA, OSA only, LUTS only, and LUTS and OSA. TTE parameters such as ejection fraction, tissue velocity, pressure, area, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), and dimension excersion were compared across the cohorts.

The results showed that patients with LUTS tended to be older and have higher rates of obesity. Among patients with OSA, larger right atrial areas and higher pulmonary artery pressure estimations were noted. However, there were no significant structural or functional cardiac changes identified in patients with LUTS.

In conclusion, while there were some minor differences in TTE parameters between different cohorts, these changes had limited clinical significance. The study suggests that there may be some cardiovascular abnormalities associated with LUTS and OSA, but further research is needed to fully understand the relationship.

In summary, this study investigated the correlation between LUTS, OSA, and TTE parameters. The results showed that there were some differences in TTE measurements between different patient groups, but these changes were not clinically significant. Further research is needed to explore the relationship between cardiovascular function and lower urinary tract symptoms.
