Pdf Summary
This study aimed to evaluate the impact of vaginal pessaries on the quality of life of women diagnosed with grade III and IV genital prolapse. The study included 42 women with a mean age of 71.9 years who were unable or did not desire surgery. The women used a silicone ring pessary for a minimum of 6 months. The impact on quality of life was assessed using two validated questionnaires, the Incontinence Questionnaire of Vaginal Symptoms (ICIQ-VS) and the Short Form Health Survey (SF 12).

The results showed that there was a significant improvement in quality of life in all components evaluated, particularly related to vaginal symptoms. The SF 12 evaluation also showed an improvement in questionnaire scores in all domains, with the greatest difference observed in physical function, emotional component, and physical component.

The findings indicate that after 6 months of treatment with vaginal pessaries, patients with grade III and IV genital prolapse experienced an improvement in their quality of life.

In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the use of vaginal pessaries can have a positive impact on the quality of life of women with severe genital prolapse who are unable or unwilling to undergo surgery. Further research and long-term follow-up studies are needed to confirm these findings and determine the most effective treatment options for this patient population.
