This study aimed to compare quantitative sensory testing (QST) between women with female sexual orgasmic disorder (FSOD) as their primary complaint and women with other forms of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). The study group consisted of 89 women with FSOD, while the control group included 110 women with FSD. Sexual dysfunction was assessed using the female sexual function index (FSFI), and QST was performed using a thermal and vibration Genito-Sensory Analyzer.<br /><br />The results showed that women with FSOD had significantly lower mean FSFI scores compared to the control group. The mean clitoral vibratory sensory thresholds were higher in the study group compared to the control group, indicating that women with FSOD required greater clitoral stimulation to achieve the same sensation. However, no significant difference was found in vaginal vibratory thresholds between the two groups.<br /><br />These findings suggest a possible physiological cause of FSOD in otherwise healthy women, indicating the importance of the clitoris in achieving sexual orgasm. The study supports the role of the clitoris in sexual satisfaction and suggests that FSOD may have a physiological basis rather than solely psychological causes. <br /><br />Strengths of the study include the use of both objective (QST) and subjective (FSFI) measures in assessing sexual dysfunction and the inclusion of both FSOD and control groups. However, the retrospective design is a limitation of the study. Further research is needed to explore the physiological mechanisms underlying FSOD and to develop effective interventions.
