Outcomes of Mixed Urinary Incontinence and Urodynamic Stress Incontinence with Urgency after mid-urethral Sling Surgery - Tsia Shu Lo, MD
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This document discusses the outcomes of mid-urethral sling surgery (MUS) for mixed urinary incontinence (MUI), specifically looking at the cure rates for urodynamic stress incontinence (USI) with urgency and detrusor overactivity with urethral incompetence under stress (SUI-UD). The study was a retrospective observational study conducted at tertiary hospitals between January 2004 and April 2017.

The results showed that MUS had a good cure rate for the stress component of MUI, with 82.2% of patients in the USI-urgency group experiencing objective cure and 81.1% experiencing subjective cure. However, the cure rates were lower for patients in the MUI-UD group, with 55.2% experiencing objective cure and 53.7% experiencing subjective cure.

The study also identified several factors that negatively affected the cure rates, including postmenopausal status, prior hysterectomy, smaller bladder capacity, large volume in the pre-operative pad test, and lower mid-urethral closure pressure.

Overall, the study suggests that urodynamic investigation prior to treatment of MUI could lead to more targeted and effective management. It emphasizes the importance of considering both the stress and urgency components of MUI when deciding on surgical treatment options.

The contact information for the lead researcher, Prof. Tsia-Shu Lo, is provided for further inquiries.
