Back to course
Pdf Summary
The study analyzed patient experience data before and after the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) in an academic urogynecology practice. The researchers hypothesized that there would not be a significant difference in patient experience scores after the implementation of EMR. The data was collected from January 2014 to March 2016 and compared using CG-CAHPS scores.

The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference in patient experience scores before and after the implementation of EMR. The averages of the scores were similar, even though the post-EMR sample size was larger. The Mann Whitney U Test also showed no significant difference in top box scores and percentile ranks.

The study concluded that EMR implementation had no negative impact on patients' experience. This conclusion was observed even after excluding months that may have been affected by a learning curve period. It was also noted that there was an increase in compliance and respondents filling out CG-CAHPS after the implementation of EMR, which could be attributed to better patient education and the provision of after visit summaries.

Overall, the study suggests that EMR implementation did not negatively affect patient experience in the academic urogynecology practice. These findings are important as patient experience scores are becoming more public and can influence patients' choice of healthcare providers and reimbursement rates. Electronic medical records can improve documentation, reduce errors, and allow clinicians to focus more on patient needs.
