Pdf Summary
This study investigated the association between pelvic floor muscle (PFM) and abdominal muscle function with the presence of chronic low back pain (CLBP) in parous women. The study included 28 women with CLBP and 17 women without CLBP. The results showed that the case group had significantly higher scores on the Australian pelvic floor questionnaire compared to the control group. However, there were no significant differences in pelvic floor muscle strength and endurance between the two groups. The EMG findings indicated significant differences in the onset and release of contraction time. There were also insignificant differences in the SLR test results and the Sahrmann scale between the groups.

The study found that there were no significant associations between pelvic floor muscle endurance and severity of back pain, as well as for the association with the Sahrmann test scores. However, pelvic floor muscle strength correlated significantly with the severity of back pain. In terms of pelvic floor dysfunction, there were insignificant associations between dysfunction and the Sahrmann test score. However, significant associations were found between dysfunction and pelvic floor muscle strength and endurance.

Based on these findings, addressing CLBP could potentially lead to decreased pelvic floor dysfunction and improved function of the pelvic floor muscles. The study recommends the need for clinical trials to further investigate and support these recommendations.

In summary, this study suggests that pelvic floor muscle function is more closely associated with CLBP in parous women compared to abdominal muscle function. It highlights the potential benefits of addressing CLBP in improving pelvic floor function and recommends further research in this area.
