Pdf Summary
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions (PFD) in Brazilian nurses, including Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), Urinary Incontinence (UI), Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), female sexual dysfunctions, and anorectal dysfunctions. The study included 264 female nurses, with 84 registered nurses and 180 practical nurses. The majority of participants were young, brown or black, and overweight. Data was collected using an electronic form with seven specific research tools.

The results showed a high prevalence of PFD in Brazilian female nurses, particularly LUTS. Among all nurses, 81.4% reported LUTS, while 18.6% did not. In terms of Pelvic Organ Prolapse, 9.5% of nurses reported having this dysfunction, while 90.5% did not. Constipation was reported by 26.5% of nurses, while 73.5% did not experience this symptom. Among the 157 nurses assessed for sexual dysfunction, 18.5% reported experiencing it, while 81.5% did not.

The study suggests a need for further research on overall PFD in the nursing workforce in Brazil, as there is a scarcity of studies in the country. The findings highlight the importance of addressing and managing PFD among nurses, as these dysfunctions can affect their quality of life and work performance. Further investigations can provide insights for the development of preventative measures and interventions to support nurses' pelvic health.
