Prevalence of Female Urinary Incontinence in Crossfit® Practitioners and Associated Factors: An Internet Population-Based Survey - Luiz Gustavo Oliveira Brito, MD, PhD
Back to course
Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) in female CrossFit practitioners and the associated factors. The study used an Internet population-based survey that was made available through various social media platforms. A total of 551 women participated in the survey and provided information on demographic variables, anthropometric data, and the presence of UI during CrossFit exercises.

The results showed that the overall prevalence of UI during CrossFit exercises was 29.95%. Most women with UI reported experiencing urine loss during a single exercise. Women with UI were found to be older compared to those without UI. The exercises that were most frequently associated with UI were double under (20.15%) and single under (7.99%).

The study concluded that approximately one-third of the female CrossFit population experienced UI during exercises. Double under and single under were identified as the exercises most commonly associated with UI. It is believed that the impact of jumping during these exercises may contribute to the occurrence of UI. However, further research is needed to understand the biomechanics underlying the impact of specific exercises on the pelvic floor.

Overall, this study highlights the prevalence of UI among female CrossFit practitioners and emphasizes the need for additional studies to determine the severity of each exercise and its impact on the pelvic floor.
