TVT exact® v/s KIM® System Slings, Comparison of the Efficacy in the Treatment of Female Urinary Stress Incontinence - Fabiola A Schlageter, MD
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This study aimed to compare the efficacy of two midurethral slings (MUS) in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The two slings evaluated were TVT Exact® and TVT KIM®. A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from 2010 to 2018. The primary outcome was the composite surgical failure, defined as subjective complaints of SUI, leakage during follow-up exams, and reoperation. Secondary outcomes included complications such as lower urinary tract symptoms, obstructive voiding dysfunction, extrusion, pain, and recurrent urinary tract infection. The results showed no significant differences between the two slings in terms of the primary outcome. However, TVT Exact® had more complications compared to TVT KIM®. A logistic regression analysis revealed that having a BMI over 35 increased the risk of surgical failure 2.6 times. The duration of follow-up and the type of MUS were not predictive factors for failure. This study provides evidence for the efficacy of both TVT Exact® and TVT KIM® in the treatment of female SUI, with TVT KIM® potentially being a more cost-effective alternative. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings and determine the long-term effectiveness and safety of these slings.
