Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to determine the prevalence and impact of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) among female competitive rope skipping (RS) athletes. The study found that 75% of the athletes surveyed experienced SUI during RS activities. SUI is a barrier to physical activity participation, and the prevalence of SUI is high among athletes in high-impact sports such as RS. The study aimed to explore the management practices of SUI among RS athletes and whether it contributed to athlete retirement.

The study used a cross-sectional observational survey design and included both current and retired RS athletes. The results showed that SUI risk factors during RS included menarchal status, while other factors such as caffeine and alcohol consumption did not significantly contribute to SUI. The management strategies reported by athletes included voiding before RS, containing urine leakage with pads or tampons, and limiting fluid intake before RS.

The study found that SUI has a moderate impact on RS activities and their quality of life. Triple unders and double unders, two specific RS events, were particularly bothersome for athletes experiencing SUI. Some athletes reported having stopped practicing or competing in these events due to SUI.

The study suggests that RS organizations should provide education about SUI and its management to athletes, coaches, and parents in order to reduce stigma and encourage prevention and treatment. The modification of RS competitive events, such as triple unders, may also be warranted to accommodate athletes affected by SUI. The study acknowledged the limitations of its small sample size and limited generalizability.

In conclusion, female RS athletes have a high prevalence of SUI during RS activities, which can impact their participation and quality of life. The findings of this study can guide awareness, prevention, and management strategies for SUI among RS athletes.
