Pdf Summary
The study titled "When to remove the indwelling catheter after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy? CARESS (CAtheter REmoval after Sacrocolpopexy Surgery)" aimed to determine the best practice regarding the use of indwelling catheters after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy. The study involved a multi-center randomized control trial comparing standard overnight catheterization with removal of the catheter immediately after surgery. The primary outcome measured was the need for re-catheterization.

The study included 73 participants undergoing minimally invasive pelvic organ prolapse surgery. There was no statistically significant difference in hospital stay, risk of re-catheterization, or occurrence of urinary tract infections between the two groups. Patient satisfaction and pain scores were also similar.

The study found that the addition of the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure to the sacrocolpopexy did not increase the risk of re-catheterization. Patient demographics, medical comorbidities, urodynamics, and perioperative course were also assessed.

In conclusion, the study showed that there is no increased risk of re-catheterization when the indwelling catheter is removed immediately after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy. The time of hospital stay, patient satisfaction, and pain scores were similar between the two groups. The addition of the TVT procedure to sacrocolpopexy did not increase the risk of re-catheterization. Therefore, indwelling catheters can be safely removed immediately after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy.
