The speakers described barriers including patient overwhelm after a cancer diagnosis, delays in referral, surgeon concerns about added operative time, anesthesia risk, and questions about mesh use.<br /><br />They explained how the consensus statement was developed through literature review and Delphi voting, resulting in 28 agreed-upon statements. Key conclusions included: screening for pelvic floor symptoms should be routine; patient quality of life should be considered regardless of cancer stage; mesh can be appropriate in selected cases, including some settings involving radiation; and concomitant surgery is generally safe if it does not delay cancer treatment beyond about six weeks or significantly increase morbidity.<br /><br />They also highlighted findings from the prospective CUTI study, showing improved incontinence-related quality of life without major increases in complications, and only modest increases in operative time and blood loss. The session ended emphasizing collaboration, better screening, and more research to expand access to combined care.
