Simulations in FPMRS Education (One-Demand)
Simulations in FPMRS Education (One-Demand)
Presented on January 18, 2023 by Robert S. Kelley, DO, MBA.
About the Course
What is the recipe for success in FPMRS simulation? Does one need to have an expensive simulation center to reap the benefits of simulation? Many urogynecologic procedures can be emulated on low cost and readily available materials that you can construct with ease. Join us for this webinar and we will equip you with the "ingredients" to construct your own simulation model. More specifically, we will build a uterosacral ligament suspension and colpocleisis trainer. At the end of this webinar, there will also be an educational discussion on the learning objectives.
Learning Objectives
Participant will understand the history and background of simulation, the types of simulations and their ideal use and application for different learning objectives.
Participant will learn how to plan and carry out surgical simulation at their institution.
Participant will learn how to incorporate surgical simulation into their standard fellow curriculum, use it to maintain ACGME accreditation and options for educational scholarship.
Faculty
Robert Kelley, MD,
is the program director for FPMRS at Emory University School of Medicine where he developed the simulation curriculum for the FPMRS fellowship program. The curriculum spans vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic skills learned on various simulation methods from low fidelity part-task trainers to high tech robotic immersion simulation.
Elizabeth Chahine, MD,
is the Director of GYNOB Simulation at Emory University. Dr. Chahine developed and continue to implement the Emory resident simulation curriculum, midwife simulations and multidisciplinary OB emergency simulations. She has assisted Dr. Kelley to elevate resident simulations for for FPMRS fellows applicability and established a FMPRS robotic simulation “bootcamp”.
Gina Northington, MD, PhD,
joined the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine. She is currently Professor and Director of the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Dr. Northington’s clinical areas of interest include geriatric gynecology, neuromodulation, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and overactive bladder. She currently participates in several clinical trials and translational research projects investigating mechanisms of female pelvic floor disorders. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory, Dr. Northington was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania where she also completed her fellowship training. She chaired the AUGS Presidential Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (2020-2021) and is currently serving as a Director-at-Large on the AUGS Board.
Mallory Youngstrom, MD,
is a second-year fellow at Emory University. Her research interests are Urogyn simulation and Trans health. She has a personal background in crafting and art, so making the simulation materials is one of her favorite parts about simulation.
