This webinar will provide an overview of the current state of the literature of enabling devices in Vaginal Surgery with a special emphasis on the VNOTES technique in urogynecologic surgery.

Veronica T. Lerner, MD, FACOG

Fiona M. Lindo, MD, MPH, FACOG, FACS, URPS, DipABLM

 

Dr. Veronica Lerner was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and immigrated from the former Soviet Union, moving to Denver, Colorado, with her family in high school. She attended college and medical school at the University of Colorado and came to New York in 2002, completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital. Following her residency, she completed a pelvic surgery fellowship at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, focusing on advanced laparoscopic and vaginal surgery.

From 2007 to 2017, she was part of the academic faculty in the NYU School of Medicine Department of OB/GYN. She served as the department’s Director of Simulation, building programs and medical teams, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows during their training, and rising to the rank of Associate Professor. From 2017 to 2022, she continued in a similar role at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. She has assembled multi-disciplinary surgical teams and comprehensive services for patients with endometriosis and fibroids, and performs surgeries for prolapse and incontinence. In 2022, she joined Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health and continues to build departmental simulation and clinical programs. She was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2024.

Dr. Lerner is passionate about finding ways for patients to receive the best possible care, which led her to pursue an active academic career in medical education and simulation-based education to improve clinical outcomes. Her scholarly interests include education via simulation and its relationship with quality improvement, the advancement of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including the vaginal surgical approach to benign gynecologic conditions, and the quality of surgical care. She has authored multiple publications, including 36 peer-reviewed articles, and serves as a peer reviewer for several journals. She served a 4-year term on the Editorial Board of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal and continues to be active in the peer review mentorship program at the Green Journal. She also serves as an associate editor for the Simulation in Healthcare Journal. She has completed her term as an associate editor for the  Society of Gynecologic Surgery for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has received a total of 15 institutional and four nationally recognized teaching awards. She is actively involved in several leadership positions within the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS).

Fiona M. Lindo, MD, MPH, FACOG, FACS, URPS, DipABLM is a practicing urogynecologist and health coach based in Houston, Texas. Triple board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Lindo has served for over a decade as Medical Director of Urogynecology and Director of the Center for Restorative Pelvic Medicine at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. She also serves as Fellowship Program Director and International Women’s Health Director for the Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Lindo is deeply committed to advancing women’s health globally. She developed the International Women’s Health Program within the urogynecology fellowship and has provided care and training in multiple countries, including Haiti, Jamaica, India, Liberia, Ghana, the Philippines, Japan, and Malawi, where she continues to teach and care for women with pelvic floor disorders annually.

A certified surgical coach through the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Lindo has designed structured programs in surgical coaching and mentorship for urogynecology trainees. She is a Fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. She completed her fellowship training in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine at Scott & White Healthcare, Texas A&M University College of Medicine. 

Her scholarly interests include surgical education and coaching, lifestyle medicine in pelvic floor disorders, and global health applications in urogynecology. An active member of the International Urogynecological Association since 2011, she currently serves as Chair of the Fellowship Development Committee. In recognition of her leadership and service, she also received the 2023 American Medical Women’s Association Inspire Award. 

Dr. Lindo embraces a faith-based holistic wellness approach, integrating mindfulness, mental well-being, movement, and whole-food plant-based nutrition into patient care. She is passionate about engaging community organizations to promote healthy lifestyles and is dedicated to delivering compassionate, comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of women through both conservative and surgical management strategies.
