This webinar is aimed at practicing clinicians working with patients with pelvic floor disorders. The webinar will explore the intersection of mental health and pelvic floor disorders, with a focus on possibilities for behavioral interventions. The webinar will also explore good practices for assessing psychosocial aspects of pelvic floor disorders.

At the end of this webinar participants will: 

• Learn about best practices for the assessment of possible comorbid mental health symptoms in patients with pelvic floor disorders. This includes patient-reported outcomes and semi-structured interviewing in mental health assessment.
• Learn about assessment options, including patient-reported outcomes, for evaluating comorbidities in patients. The webinar will also discuss how psychometric properties, such as reliability and validity, are evaluated.
• Become familiar with behavioral interventions that may be options for comorbidities of pelvic floor disorders. The learner will understand referral options for patients, as well as evidence associated with different behavioral interventions. The webinar will not necessarily teach the learner how to administer these interventions, but you will be directed to resources where you can learn more.

Dr. Griffith is professor in the Department of Ob-Gyn and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago. He is a clinical psychologist with interests in clinical assessment, behavioral interventions, and clinical decision-making. He is a member of several research teams with a focus on pelvic health. He gave the keynote address to the PFDN in 2023 entitled “Perspectives on patient-reported outcomes”. He works closely with the urogynecologists at the University of Chicago to lend a holistic perspective to both research and clinical care. He is interested in helping to improve quality of life for patients with excellence in both clinical care and research.
