Faculty

Pamela W. Coleman, M.D. FACS, FPMRS is Associate Professor of Surgery and Interim Chief of Urology at Howard University Hospital (HUH) in Washington, DC. She holds board certification in both Urology and Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery.

Her leadership positions include Secretary of the Medical Dental staff, Chair of the Practitioner Peer Review committee, Director of the Men Take Ten Prostate Cancer Screening Program, Board Member of the Mid-Atlantic American Urological Association (MA AUA), member of the AUA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, HUH Director of the MA AUA Pre-Medicine Enrichment (PEP) program, speaker at the R. Frank Jones Urological Society on Pipeline programs in Urology, founding member of Society of Women in Urology, member of the National Medical Association, Member of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) Education Committee, and Clerkship Director for urogynecology, in both medicine and surgery resident rotations. Dr. Coleman heads the Physician Champion Committee for prevention catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) at HUH. She was presented the Department of Surgery Star Performer Faculty Award and twice received the HUH Patient Care award.

Dr. Coleman is involved in clinical trial evaluating urinary urgency incontinence, and an investigator on grant studying genetic factors in prostate and renal cancer. 

Dr. Coleman is best known for her teaching style of “flipping the classroom” to actively involve student participation in learning.  She is a mentor, preceptor, and instructor for many students.  She has distinguished herself by assisting underrepresented students enter pipeline programs to achieve their goals towards becoming a urological surgeon.

Dr. Lauren Caldwell is an Assistant Professor in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas Dell Medical School University Physicians Group, where she serves as the Assistant Program Director for the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. She completed her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Hospital. As a resident she received the Luis Sanz Award for Excellence in Gynecological Surgery and Award for Excellence in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and was elected as an administrative chief resident. Dr. Caldwell attended the University of Virginia for medical school and continues to serve as a board member of the UVa Medical Alumni Association and class representative. Prior to medical school, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with an oboe focus.

Dr. Caldwell has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles, a book chapter, and presented her work at national and international conferences. Her study of women’s experience of their first sexual encounter after pelvic reconstructive surgery was honored as the Obstetrics & Gynecology journal Editors’ Pick article in September 2021 and was featured on the Editor’s Picks and Perspectives podcast. This work is now serving as the foundation for grant funded multi-center investigations through the Collaborative Research in Pelvic Surgery Consortium (CoRPS). She is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society Research Agenda Writing Group on Sexual Health, as well as a member of the society’s Education Committee, and serves as a peer reviewer for the International Urogynecology Journal. Her research interests include sexual function, social and cultural barriers to care and obstetric trauma.
