Gender Affirmation Surgery (On-Demand)

Description
The purpose of this webinar is to familiarize attendees with gender affirming surgery for transgender women and to obtain a better understanding of the management of minor and major complications associated with these surgeries.
Learning Objectives
1. Review the requirements and criteria that patients must meet to be candidates for vaginoplasty surgery
2. Describe the techniques used to perform vulvoplasty/vaginoplasty
3. Provide examples of outcomes of surgery
4. Review minor complications (urinary stream abnormalities, wound dehiscence, cosmetic concerns) of vulvoplasty/vaginoplasty and management of these complications
5. Review major complications (vaginal stenosis, fistula) of vulvoplasty/vaginoplasty and management of these complications
Faculty
Dr. Cecile Ferrando is a board certified Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery specialist at Cleveland Clinic. She completed her Ob/GYN residency training at the combined Brigham & Women’s/Massachusetts General Hospital training program and then her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at Cleveland Clinic. She has been in practice for 7 years. She has an academic appointment at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and is an active faculty member for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Ferrando was one of the founders of Cleveland Clinic’s Transgender Surgery & Medicine Program, housed in their LGBT Center. She is currently the Director of Surgical Services. Her clinical practice focuses on pelvic reconstruction, including gender affirmation surgery. She has performed over 300 gender affirmation surgeries in the last 5 years. She is the fellowship director for Cleveland Clinic’s FPMRS fellowship as well as the program director for the Transgender Surgery fellowship. Dr. Ferrando’s research is focused on the outcomes of pelvic reconstructive surgery. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers and has authored 12 textbook chapters. She is the editor of the textbook “Comprehensive Care of the Transgender Patient.” She is committed to expanding research in the area of transgender health and she continues to mentor students and trainees in this area.
