Greater than 40% of U.S. adults have obesity, the highest incidence ever recorded. Obesity is linked to more than 40 diseases including many that affect the pelvic floor. Weight loss may improve symptoms of some pelvic floor disorders and should be incorporated when appropriate. Morbid obesity can make apical prolapse procedures more challenging. This webinar aims to explore relationship between obesity and pelvic floor dysfunction and provide useful information in obesity management in the context of pelvic health.
Learning Objectives
  1. To describe the Obesity epidemic and the role of Obesity in pelvic floor disorders
  2. To define the role of weight loss and Bariatric Surgery in the treatment of incontinences and prolapse
  3. To provide the overview of surgical options for weight management and strategies for patient selection
  4. To describe tools for risk assessment and strategies for risk reduction as well perioperative considerations for the morbidly obese patient
  5. To outline special considerations for pelvic prolapse surgery in the patients with history of bariatric surgery
Faculty

Dr. Rohit Patel is the Director of Cooper's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Cooper University Healthcare. He has served in this capacity since 2011. His areas of expertise include general and minimally invasive surgery with a primary interest in all aspects of bariatric surgery. Dr. Patel is passionate about obesity care and population health. Coopers program is multidisciplinary and offers lifelong care for this complex disease. Dr. Patel is the associate program director for Coopers general surgery residency and the director of surgical simulation.
