Accidental Bowel Leakage: An Update on Evaluation and Treatment
Description
A case-based presentation for clinicians who care for women with pelvic floor disorders to review the physiology of bowel continence, and to gain comfort with the evaluation and treatment algorithm for the treatment of bowel incontinence.
Learning Objectives
Understand the anorectal complex mechanisms to maintain bowel continence.
Be able to apply evidence-based approaches for the evaluation of women with bowel incontinence.
Be able to apply an evidence-based treatment algorithm for their patients with bowel incontinence.
Faculty
Dr. Candace Parker-Autry
is an Assistant Pprofessor at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C where she serves as a teacher of medical students, residents, and is core faculty in their Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. She received her Medical Doctorate degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery was completed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she developed the clinical and research interest in geriatric incontinence for both bladder and bowel. Her passion is found in her clinical care of women with pelvic floor disorders and a research focus on the expanding our knowledge on the geriatric incontinence syndrome. In addition, she has a special clinical interest in the evaluation and management of bowel leakage offering in office anorectal manometry and endoanal ultrasound as well as anorectal biofeedback therapy.
